The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

Note: Deaths aside, of those people hospitalized for COVID-19, a significant percentage have serious long-term medical problems, including lung damage severe enough to require lung transplants, unknown amounts of brain damage, strokes causing complete paralysis, and amputations of limbs (especially feet and legs but sometimes fingers or hands) due to blood flow problems. Considering how many people have been hospitalized, COVID-19 may end up being much worse than polio, which at its worst paralyzed 15,000 people per year. And while an effective vaccine was able to completely eradicate polio from the US by 1979, there's no certainty that there will ever be a vaccine for COVID-19 or if there is that it will be remotely as effective as the polio vaccine. Ergo, the lung damage, brain damage, loss of limbs and paralysis that many COVID-19 survivors experience may simply remain an ongoing threat as long as the virus is circulating...
