The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

Note: So these craft are sometimes invisible in the visual spectrum that humans can see, but visible on radar. And they can stop instantly and accelerate at incredible rates, rates that would be lethal to a human being. The latter I can explain. Radical deceleration and acceleration only kills you IF YOU HAVE MASS. It's something every particle collider on the planet is working on: the Higgs field and the Higgs Boson, the 'God Particle'. The Higgs field is what gives objects mass. Reduce an object's mass to zero and it can stop instantly and accelerate at preposterous rates. Even using simple electromagnetism interacting with Earth's magnetic field could serve as a propulsion mechanism if the mass is zero or near-zero, and that would leave no heat signature, since there's no exhaust or burning of any kind of fuel. And those aren't instantaneous TURNS that they're making - turning is what something with mass does, because mass burdens it with momentum and it HAS to turn. These craft go from moving in one direction to moving in an entirely new direction INSTANTLY. That's impossible for any object with mass. 'Somebody' has the technology to manipulate the Higgs field and reduce the mass of these craft to zero. The invisibility indicates that they can also route at least parts of the light spectrum around the craft, rendering the craft invisible in that part of the spectrum. The US military has been working on similar invisibility technology, quite possibly because they know it can be done from observing these craft exhibiting that capability.
Just consider what this kind of mass-altering technology makes possible, particularly if scaled up. Reduce the mass of a gigantic asteroid to nothing and zip it into orbit overnight for mining. Reduce the mass of a dangerous incoming asteroid and effortlessly push it in another direction. Reduce the mass of an enclosed city or factory to zero and relocate that city or factory to another planet. Reduce the mass of mammoth steel beams and plates to zero so even a small group of robots can easily assemble gigantic spaceships. Reduce the mass of a PLANET to zero and relocate it farther from the Sun if global warming gets dire. (Actually, that probably wouldn't work on a planet - the planet would likely break apart cataclysmically without mass/gravity holding it together. In which case it's a planet-destroying weapon instead of a planet-relocating tool.) Tractor beams for animals and people? Reduce the mass of a cow or person to zero or near-zero and then pull it gently upward into a craft with a magnetic field acting on the iron located throughout its body. And so on. Anything that involves large-scale construction or transportation/movement of people or objects would be changed forever by this technology. It is civilization-altering technology, arguably more so even than the discoveries of fire and electricity. Once a civilization discovers the ability to affect the Higgs field and alter mass it would never again be chained by gravity wells and simplistic rocket technology to just one planet.
Also, if one can reduce the mass of objects then one can probably also INCREASE the mass of objects. That seems less useful, but I can think of some uses. Like, take a 20-ton chunk of steel, make its mass zero, zip it into orbit, then make its mass 20 million tons and drop it on a city as a kinetic energy weapon. As powerful as a nuke but without any radiation. Basically a simulated asteroid impact. Or you could use the capability in mundane devices like pumps, or for making diamonds from coal more efficiently, or for use in various manufacturing processes. You could also drastically increase the mass of several objects and then use gravitational lensing to create ultra-powerful telescopes, or increase the mass of an object to create a gravity field where there would normally be none, or amplify an existing gravity field, for example to simulate Earth gravity on the Moon or on Mars. I'm sure there are plenty of other uses for being able to increase the mass of objects too, but being able to reduce mass is probably more useful overall.
Many of these craft that have been seen are saucer-shaped. There's a reason for that. The capabilities of a craft in large part determine its shape and design. Our fighter jets use fuel-burning thrust engines with exhaust at one end to propel the aircraft in only one direction, forward, using the atmosphere to provide lift via the wings - that dictates, to a very large degree, why they look the way they do and why all fighter jets look so much alike. Submarines are shaped the way they are because of their capabilities and limitations too. These Higgs-field-altering craft can stop instantly and then instantly accelerate at mind-blowing speed in any direction. The circular saucer shape gives them an aerodynamic profile no matter what direction they go in, which could be any direction at any time. So, given their capabilities, a circular saucer shape is in fact quite logical. A case could be argued that a sphere would also be a logical design (a saucer is actually just a sort of flattened sphere), and indeed, mysterious glowing 'orbs' have also been seen by many people in recent years.
One piece of good news: any civilization with this technology could very easily wipe out the human race. One industrial-scale mining ship could lob a dozen 10-mile asteroids at the Earth. Then wait a few years after the impacts for the dust to settle and to provide a little time for the survivors of the impacts to finish eating each other out of existence, and tada, humanity gone. But they haven't done that. Ergo, while they're obviously here for a reason, that reason isn't to destroy the human race. The human race is in the process of being destroyed, that's certainly true, but it's being destroyed by the changing environment as the Earth reverts to a more primordial state, not because of anything that these craft are doing.
The main point here is that a civilization that has Higgs-field-altering technology is here, now, operating on Earth. Their craft have been seen by professional military pilots and civilian pilots as well as many normal people. The descriptions of these craft and their capabilities are highly consistent. Who is in these craft? Is it us, human beings? If so then it's a breakaway civilization, Humanity 2.0, probably not based here on Earth at all, at least not anymore, since life on Earth is coming to an end and shortly this planet will be unsurvivably hostile. Or maybe it's NOT us, in which case just seeing what they can do provided the clue that the 'God Particle' and the Higgs field are the keys to at least much of their technology, which would explain why all of our particle colliders are working industriously on figuring that out. Or it could be us AND 'someone else' at this point. Regardless of which of these three possibilities is the case, it's mind-boggling and thought-provoking.
