The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. Note: Methane has an even longer-lasting legacy than carbon dioxide. It's normally true that methane doesn't last as long as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, but when it does break down, it breaks down into carbon dioxide, so you get a wave of potent methane followed by an even longer-lasting wave of carbon dioxide. In other words, methane results in some potent methane heating for a while AND some long-lasting carbon dioxide heating time. Also, hydroxyl radicals in the atmosphere, which are what react away the methane, are in decline, probably because they've been reacting away methane and hydrogen sulfide. The longer that goes on, the fewer hydroxyl radicals will be left in the atmosphere and the longer methane and hydrogen sulfide will endure in the atmosphere without being reacted away. If ALL of the hydroxyl radicals get reacted away - for example by large amounts of methane entering the atmosphere - then additional methane entering the atmosphere could last a very long time...
